Globetrotting for Gender Equality | The Daily Show Presents: Desi Lydic: Abroad

I’m here in Iceland
where they rank number one for gender equality,
but it can’t be that great. See, you can’t trust
any of this landscape. Someone needs to fix this. Iceland is number one
for gender equality. Where do you think America
ranks? Somewhere between 70, 80. Like 50. OK, that’s a little excessive. So where are you? We’re 49. Oh, it’s so funny to you,
ha ha ha, laughing in your earth jacuzzi, eating your Swedish meatballs. You really have it all. What is the Iceland dream? I think we have most of our
dreams. We’ve got Blue Lagoon,
we’ve got the view. I think we’ve got everything. Well, I just peed in the water,
so it’s not 100% perfect. Well, almost then. I’ll tell you my
Icelandic dream: two strong men braiding
my hair on a glacier. ‘Course, though, my fifth
grade Spanish teacher is there too eating pancakes. That’s a weird dream. You know, America’s
pretty great at some stuff. Like what? Like “American Ninja Warrior,”
American Girl dolls, pool floats, truck nuts. We’re definitely number one
in American flag bikinis. Why do you think America’s 49? It’s such a big country. The size difference is,
of course, immense. Size does matter. Yeah, size does really matter. Yeah, ‘course maybe it’s
because of jokes like that that we’re 49th. Yeah, I could believe that. Size doesn’t just matter
to the people of Iceland, but also to the people of
number 13 on the list, Namibia. When it comes to female
representation in government, Namibia is way up here, like the head of this
freakishly tall horse, and America’s way down here,
like this slow little f**ker. But for every seat
a woman fills, a man’s butt goes unseated. How do men feel about what’s
happening to their butts? We have women who are leading
as queens in our societies. It’s pretty normal for us. -Queens?
-Yes. We have Queen Beyoncé. So that’s pretty cool. Wow. Yeah, so we’ve got queens, too. Our vice president is a woman. How do you feel about that? I think great. But don’t you think
you’re missing out? By having 50% of women
in government, you’re kind of missing
out on 50% of the wars. I don’t know.
I’ve seen women fight. -You have?
-Yeah. Do you watch a lot of Bravo? No, no, I don’t. Do you watch The Daily Show? Yeah, no, I watch it all the
time. Who’s your favorite
correspondent out of all of ’em? I think Roy, yeah. I guess you’re more sexist
than I thought. No, no, pretty equal. If a man can do it, a woman
can also do what a man can do. God bless you. -You smell good.
-Thank you. Can we just make this
last a little bit longer? I’m a hugger. My next stop is known for its
tiny tapas and grande siestas. Spain has accomplished so much in a very short period of time, but just like me in a
gas station bathroom, they aren’t about to just
sit down and settle in. And when it comes to
gender equality, they too are
ranked higher than us. -Spain is 24. America’s 49.
-And the first? You’re basically
twice as good as we are. Yeah. It’s like Spain is
Batman and Robin, and America’s just Batman,
who’s sexist and tells Robin
he should smile more. Yeah, yeah. In America
women need to wake up, to grow up,
to be more conscious, yeah. It’s easy for you to stay awake because you take
three- to four-hour naps a day. Oh, look, it’s an upside
down exclamation point. What? You can think of
an all-male government – why not of
an all-women government? Yeah. There’s a movement in America about Nipple Free, or something
like that in America, right? Yeah, Free the Nipple. Free the Nipple. I also had
that movement in college. Yeah, how did you like it? It was for different reasons,
but… They’re so good. You like tortilla de patatas? They’re so tasty yet so small,
and they’re free. No, they’re not free. They’re not free? They’re not.

  1. you should come to bangladesh
    i cant believe its 47
you should see it for your self

  2. Women In 3rd world countries( Arab Muslim countries) are paid equal to men and sometimes they are better paid than men at the same job.

  3. They should've sown the Iceland Phallological Museum after the sixe does matter comment.

  4. If you keep growing your CO2 Footprint there will be no space for gender equality anymore

  5. I hope the show has more actual content than this because this video comes across as an excuse for Desi to take several vactions in countries with more female politicians while contantlty repeating the words fourty nineth.

  6. i was just there
(the Iceland fjord Hvalfjörður & Hallgrímskirkja 'spire')
    upside down ! hilarious.

  7. She is so stupid, she try's so hard to be funny. But it's just cringe

  8. Iceland is a tiny and homogeneous country — ergo, not at all hard to manufacture any social conditions you want. Not very impressive.

  9. That's it, I'm moving to Iceland! I want to be in that earth jacuzzi!

  10. Come to Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, Spain to experience some gender equality. I´ve seen two different garbage collection trucks with women doing the hard work of pushing around the garbage containers. And I speak of typical spanish women: 1,50 tall, helmet included, 0,8 m in diameter, the typical garbage container, (1 x 1 x 1,44 m) and the garbage trucks only roamng the streets at night between 20:00 and 02:00 to avoid the normal traffic to collabse.
I assume the fleet of garbage trucks in my city to be about 10- 12 each crewed with two container pushers. If at least two of them are female this would make over 8 % female container pushers.

Puerto Cruz has about 32.000 inhabitants; the USA 320.000.000. So to achieve the same amount of female container pushers, the USA would need 20.000 female container pushers just in case every inhabitant would produce the same amount of garbage. Now, how many are there?

  11. American women need to quit voting for all of the little dick republicans that measure their manhood by their wallets.

  12. 🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦

  13. These beautiful countries should never be compared with a toxic country like America.

  14. sorry but as nice as Desi is, why does the lady have to have her dip volume turned so far up

  15. 2:37, i'm tired of hearing that feminism crap, men and women are not the same, if we were, there would only be one gender.

  16. America has gender equality. Those who tell you otherwise are engaged in the eternal victimhood complex, the oppression Olympics if you will. To see real gender inequality, check out the Middle East.

  17. "You're kind of missing out on 50% of the wars."
I'm… not sure this is quite the best way to say this. 🤔

  18. "You smell really nice. Let's just make this last a little big longer."
Am I the only one who found this part… touching?

  19. Where in Namibia was Desi for this? Some nice part of Windhoek?

  20. Hey woman! Hold the regular dislike for the regular BS your saying.
And Bionce is no queen. Just a bad singer.

  21. So here I am in Saudi Arabia which is almost dead last in gender equality because of some islamic texts that say women are subservient to men and their opinion in court is only half that of men. Oh by the way I'm in a burqa because of strict islamic laws and there are some gays being hanged.
Oh wait, Islamic criticism doesn't exist in leftist media

  22. I agree we should have more gender equality.

Women should be eligible for the draft when they turn 18. If they do not apply for selective service or try to avoid the draft they go to prison.

Alimony is sexist, 95% of people paying it are men. We need to make it 50/50. We should encourage women to marry a man who make much less than them.
    Otherwise its" toxic feminity".

Women should be able to compete against men in sports. Each time a woman competes against men in sports, a man gets to compete in a woman's sport.

I think this is a good step in the right direction of gender equality.

  23. Oh cool more anti American feminist bullshit lies. Would love to drop this bitch off in the middle east. Then she could actually see what real oppression feels like.

  24. I know this is for a joke but after talking to this woman, this would be the very last American these Icelandic people will ever talk to for the rest of their lives.

  25. Im sure desi pitched this as a way to show more socially progressive countries but this Was really an excuse for desi to be able to travel the world 😂😂

  26. Roy is my favourite correspondent also. I wish Desi would go away!

  27. I want to like Desi, and I'm generally for anything that gives feminism more exposure, but I just can't stand her, she grates on me like the sound of chalk on a blackboard. (A simile surely doomed to extinction quite soon — "What's chalk?" "What the hell is a blackboard? Is that a new app?")

  28. I will accept that there is gender inequality for women when you stop making the guy pay for divorce settlement and when the guy don't have to pay all his money to his divorced wife and live on the street. Feminists will only be happy when they take away all the rights from men and make it their right in the name of equality

  29. I am dying watching this video! And I am also a bit dying being a woman in this xenophobic, misogynist Italy. But I guess that's a different form of death.

  30. For more on this special, as well as a look into Desi Lydic's approach to the topic of gender inequality, visit https://youtu.be/tLnym9K_AMU. I found it both informative and entertaining.

America is arguably more divided today than it's ever been, and the problem of gender inequality is just one of a host of inequality issues that need to be acknowledged and addressed in comprehensive and meaningful ways.

As the world's superpower and one of the largest economies, our society should be the model; the most fair and inclusive. Unfortunately, our success has become the very thing preventing us from leading on important issues such as inequality, climate, healthcare, education and housing.

Hopefully this special can be a conversation starter. Civil conversation, that is.

  31. Aaaand America is lecturing every nation about equality and human rights 😀. Talking about hypocrisy.

  32. Came to see if the comments were as repulsive as expected, but was very pleasantly surprised 🙂

  33. "Who is your favorite?" "Roy" Truth. Desi is just obnoxious and annoying; Roy is hilarious.

  34. SuperMajority.com is THE place where women and men who love women UNITE in power and influence to determine US elections.

  35. *Roy is my favourite too*…

(just kidding – love you all equally xx)

  36. Desi Lydic is my favorite. Next time u r around Nairobi, Kenya, Let me know. Too Hilarious. I always look forward to your work!

  37. She looks AMAZINGGGG in that black dress in spain, Desi is a queen <3

  38. wow Namibia is better with gender equality than the US is, I mean Africa is not popular for women having equal rights. wtf America why is it so hard to treat every one equal it's almost 2020 and we still can't figure out how equality for every one be it women, lgbtq, or race and yet we have the balls to say we are the most progressive country in the world

  39. Roy, Desi, Hassan(former), Dulce and Ron. Best correspodents for d show.
I have faviorates(not faviorate). Itl b Desi, Roy and Dulce all tied at #1 spot. Heheehehe.
    Though im rooting for Ron.
If Hassan was still der. Top spot would be his. Hahahaha
    Thanks Desi. Ur d best😉😉👍👍💪💪

  40. Desi you were Namibia… Why didn't u announce your self. I would have showed u some good time.

  41. Lol i second the guy there . Roy Wood Jr is very cool

  42. Go, girl! My country (and maybe others) copy everything from America (fast food, economy and politics) So that please go with this and make these creepy old men you called senators do something useful for a while. I grew up in a very male chauvinist place, but even here I have heard that women work better, because we are more reliable. Moreover, having kids is a tendency that is going in decline. It is really hard to succed both at work and as a mother of several kids. So what's the point? Mhmm…Maybe if you are creepy and old, the only thing you have is money. Freaking ugly senators!

  43. I learned nothing about gender equality due to my raging boner.

  44. 👩‍🎤 Hey Desi we have 👑Queen Latifa(sp)👑 not queen beyonce🙄

  45. I wanted to hug the good Namibian man. Maybe not as long. 🤣.

  46. Not bragging, but Bangladesh has had female prime Minister for the last 28 years, now we have female speaker for two terms in a row. Above all garments is the main export and most of the worker are women. They are running our country, we are proud of them.

  47. If Desi asked me who my favorite correspondent is, she'd the the answer she wants to hear – and I wouldn't have to lie!
    She's awesome!

  48. 2:43 was that actual real sentiment during The Daily Show? And was Desi of all people? That caught me off-guard and was very sweet.

  49. Unfortunately Dezi missed the actual situation in the ground. We do have 50 per cent of women in leadership, but that's just for looks. Many of the women (and men) in the Namibian parliament often fail to raise the concerns of our women.

  50. In all first world countries especially America women are already equal. There is no wage gap. If anything, feminism is making women more important than men.

  51. I just love how Desi can say some of these lines with a straight face and make things relate-ably funny

  52. "American Ninja Warrior" is NOT American!! It was originally Japanese. Your dumb ass country/white people stole it – (just like you stole everything else via "cultural appropriation.") #STFU Also, kudos to the guy who picked Roy. I don't like Desi either, cuz they keep giving her shitty roles in these correspondence reports.

  53. It’s great message, but get real.I’m sorry but most man can lead, not like women can’t lead, but man do it better.

  54. She funny who is she who are you domestic violence Safe Haven Community shared housing Robert Hayden raping choking smothering my late wife 2013 she tells me I tell his probation officer 2013 she explains with her silence become OJ Simpson annihilate them both or become a entrepreneur solicit donations relocate survivors of domestic violence apartment complex Low Income Housing section 8 affordable housing.
