AMERICAN ORGANIZATION AND SIGMA OMICRON EPSILON HELD ‘MY CULTURE IS NOT A COSTUME’ CAMPAIGN. THEY STARTED THIS CAMPAIGN 4 YEARS AGO TO EDUCATE STUDENTS ABOUT CULTURAL AWARENESS BEFORE PICKING OUT HALLOWEEN COSTUMES OUR ALYSSA PEJIC IS IN THE NEWSROOM NOW WITH MORE.. ANGIE KEN… HALLOWEEN SHOULD BE FUN AND SAFE FOR EVERYONE AND MOST PEOPLE THAT DRESS UP DON’T HAVE THE INTENTION OF BEING OFFENSIVE TOWARDS OTHER CULTURES BUT TODAY ‘MY CULTURE IS NOT A COSTUME’ CAMPAIGN REACHED OUT TO STUDENTS THAT WALKED BY IN THE MAIN CAMPUS STUDENT CENTER TO TAKE A SECOND AND GENERATE A CONVERSATION WITH FELLOW STUDENTS ABOUT THIS TOPIC… THEY TOLD ME THE BEST WAY TO GET RID OF THE STEREOTYPES IS TO HAVE A DISCUSSION AND RAISE AWARENESS THIS CAMPAIGN GIVE STUDENTS THE CHANCE TO THINK TWICE BEFORE REDUCING ANOTHER CULTURE “we wanted to have students to actually stop and say is my costume.. is my costume appropriate that i am picking for halloween or maybe is this party theme appropriate or not appropriate.” MANY E-C-U STUDENTS DECIDED TO MAKE A STATEMENT PAPER ON HOW THIS IS HARMFUL TOWARDS OTHER BELIEFS AND PRACTICES FOR MORE INFORMATION HEAD TO WNCT DOT COM IN THE NEWSROOM ALYSSA PEJIC 9 ON YOUR SIDE WHEN WE COME BACK… WE’RE SHARING THE

  1. Unless you are Celtic/Gaelic to begin with, celebrating Halloween IS cultural appropriation. Their culture is not your holiday. Anyone else see the hypocrisy?

  2. halloween is a celtic tradition i dont know why america wants to destroy it dont dress up cause its not your culture ok neither is saint patricks day you think its ok to not use someones culture cause there not white so stop harassing people and follow your own words ok

  3. Cultural appropriation when asians wear blue jeans. Cultural appropriation when black people straighten their hair. Cultural appropriation when Mexicans speak English.

  4. Cultural appropriation when asians use forks. This is getting out of hand guys. Cultural appropriation doesn't exist. Unless you are hindu and riding a harley. Then that is cultural appropriation and you are racist lol
