What the Jurassic Park Casting Details Mean for Jurassic World 3! (Nerdist News w/ Amy Vorpahl)

– This episode of
Nerdist News is sponsored by Nintendo’s “The Legend of
Zelda, Link’s Awakening” game. What the Jurassic Park
casting details mean for “Jurassic World 3”. The equation for the
“Jurassic Park/World” series is pretty simple. Take one part man’s hubris, add one part genetically
modified dinosaurs, mix in a little bit of enclosed space, mash it all together,
and you get the recipe for oodles of money. But despite the huge stacks of cash, the latest installment in the series “Jurassic World:
Fallen Kingdom” pulled in, it did draw some ire from audiences after trailers teased out the return of fan favorite character Dr. Ian Malcolm, portrayed by Jeff Goldblum, and then did nothing with him. Honestly, to say that he
was underutilized would be a gross understatement, as the chaos mathematician
was basically relegated to a glorified cameo that
book-ended the plot of the film. And beyond the other concerns
that plagued fans’ critiques of the film, this specific
issue definitely highlighted that there is a desire to see more of the “Jurassic” franchise
returning characters beyond the T-Rex in the
first “Jurassic World”. – And there it is. – There is is. – Luckily, it seems that the
filmmakers have listened. On Tuesday, Steven Spielberg’s
production company, Amblin, released a statement that was an answer to
all of the fans’ prayers. When the whole world’s gone prehistoric, you call in the experts. Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum are all set to reprise their legendary
roles as Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Dr.
Ian Malcolm (respectively) in the third chapter
in Universal Pictures’ and Amblin Entertainment’s
“Jurassic World” saga. Not only are we getting more Goldblum, we are getting more Laura Dern and Sam Neill all together again. – They do move in herds. – And while this is great and everything, what does this statement mean
for the franchise overall? One thing that “Jurassic”
fans are wondering, is how these new additions will interact with returning “Jurassic
World” characters, like Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing. What’s interesting about
Amblin’s statement, is that it refers to the
upcoming “Jurassic World” film as the third chapter and not
the final part of a trilogy. And while people have made the assumption that “Jurassic World” would be a trilogy, since that is the pattern started by the “Jurassic Park” films, it’s never been outright said. This seems to imply that the “Jurassic World”
story will continue on to films like “Jurassic
World 4”, on so on. Plus, the return of some
favorite cast members like Dern and Neill, also seems to imply that the film-makers
are planting the seeds for further chapters. Considering how much these
films are still making at the box-office, plus
all of the merchandising, there is no chance these films
are going away any time soon. In fact, just last week, “Jurassic World” and Universal released
“Battle at Big Rock”, a short film that takes place in the “Jurassic Park”,
“Jurassic World” universe. And during the credits of
this short, we see home movies of normal people dealing with dinosaurs in the post “Fallen Kingdom” world. It’s a safe bet to think that
in addition to Dr. Malcolm, Dr. Satler and Dr.
Grant’s expertise is going to be called upon to help people in this neo-jurassic age
in “Jurassic World 3”. Another direction the
franchise might be going, is beyond films and spreading
out into other forms of media, ie. comics, TV shows, narrative podcasts. Since dinos are now a worldwide problem, there are a ton of
stories that could be told in this universe. The positive reaction to that short film is
basically a proof of concept that audiences are ready to embrace the “Jurassic” universe outside of the big screen. Either way, we’re excited
to see Grant, Sattler and Malcolm return to theaters in “Jurassic World 3” in June of 2021. But, what do you folks think? Are you excited to see
“Jurassic Park” heroes return in “Jurassic World 3”? Would you watch a
“Jurassic World” TV show? And what is you favorite dinosaur? And why has no one asked you
that since you were a kid? Let’s discuss. Thanks again to Nintendo’s “The Legend of Zelda,
Links Awakening” game for sponsoring today’s episode. Prepare to embark on an exciting adventure after Link has been washed ashore on the re-imagined Koholint Island. To find his way home, Link

  1. Guest host suggestions. Trisha Hershberger, Alison Haislip, Roxy Striar, and/or Whitney Moore. Or you know just bring Maude back. I don't know if anyone in the comments has suggested that yet or not.

  2. RIP Brachiosaurus from the first film who was cooked alive as the island's volcano clouds engulfed the island.

  3. Amy should remain as the New Main Nerdist Host with Maude Garrett as 2nd Host & when they are off have guest hosts like Trisha, Ericka Ishii, etc…

  4. If Dern, Neil, AND Goldblum are returning, then let’s hope the writing won’t be as terrible as Fallen Kingdom..

Don’t do these legendary characters dirty by writing a crappy script! Either way, I’m VERY EXCITED because of this news!!!

  5. Did you guys make a video about the Battle At Big Rock JP short? I couldn’t recall… Either way, it was super good and any further attention to it would be great!

  6. amy i love you as host at nerdist but it would be fantastic to see that aussie chick, maude i believe her name was, back to host as well because i love her too lol

  7. It means that everybody knows the reboots are crap, so you bring in the old characters to try and make them good…

  8. Whats dissapointing is Jurrassic park is suppose to be a horror film thats suppose give kids and adults nightmares.

    New series doesnt do that.

    Old films definitely did.

  9. Also the child hybrid is leading to something too 🙂 which I’m looking forward to how they play that out.

  10. Battle of Big Rock was a big, lazily written mess in my opinion. No one behaved human and everything seemed forced.

  11. Dinosaurs in the first 2 look better and more realistic than both jurassic worlds wtf😂😂

  12. Podcasts?😂.
    T-rex: raaaahhhhwwwrrrr
Joe rogan as guest: oh god no not the face aaaaahhhhh

  13. Favorite dinos are Allo and Stego. I just want to see the interaction between Grant,Owen, and Blue.

  14. oh god, the Jurassic franchise has gone to shit and there might me more of these train wreck films in the future?

    hold on to your butts

  15. T Rex is and will always be the best. Protect your turf from those genetics imposters.

  16. Thank you Jeff, Laura, and Sam for doing the new film! I hope you have an awesome time making the movie and we all have a great time watching it! Thank you all!

  17. I hope they don't build anymore walls to keep dinosaurs out this time. Cus' I don't want to see snowflakes meltdown in a movie theatre.

  18. I find jurassic world to be a tacky cash grab with poor casting… so seeing my favourite cast coming back will be a nice change.

  19. Honestly, as much as I'm not really fond of the Jurrasic World films I do kinda like the direction they're going with it.

  20. Calling it now: Rouge One – A Jurassic World Story. / Blue – A Jurassic World Story. Etc…

  21. Oh boy, another stupid F ing sequel ! Do the useless, POS jewe writers in Hollowood not have an original idea for a movie ? Of course not. Cheap, easy money.

  22. the interactions with Chris Pratt and Sam Neil around Raptor behaviour could be really interesting. I'm pumped for this movie.

  23. Itll be interesting to see how the two echo systems will clash because dr grant brings it up in the original Jurassic park. Will ancient disese be involved ? And can we see both species be wiped out by a asteroid

  24. Can we not have fucking kids this time around? 🤦🏾‍♂️ And if we do throw those useless brats in the movie…can they get eaten please? For fucks sake.

  25. They need a new writer and director. I’m tired of this popcorn crap. I want character development that I care about. High sci-fi thoughts. Not just dinosaurs eating crap.

  26. Old adage, "follow the cash." If fans don't like what they have seen and voice complaints, the cask isn't coming in for the next movie. Without the 3main original characters, the movie will be nothing more than dino doo-doo.

  27. I'm so happy that Allan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum) will return in Jurassic World 3. The other characters of the trilogy Jurassic Park (played by the same actors) with those of the first 2 Jurassic World that I would like to see again are: Tim Murphy (Joseph Mazzello), Alex Murphy (Ariana Richards), Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore), Kelly Malcom (Vanessa Lee Chester), Nick Van Owen ( Vince Vaughn), Billy Brennan (Alessandro Nivola), perhaps Charlie the son of Ellie Sattler appearing in Jurassic Park 3, and Barry (Omar Sy) the velociraptor trainer seen in Jurassic World of 2015.

-I would like to see so much: the velociraptor Blue meeting Alan Grant where the latter is suspicious of her but learns to trust her and ends up teaming with Blue (with Barry too) when the latter asks him for help , for example for save Owen Grady or other. Alan Grant would also use his Resonance Chamber of Velociraptor (preview in Jurassic Park 3) for communicate with Blue and also call her (perhaps also others velociraptors) in case he is threatened by a predator or malicious humans.

-And a meeting between Alan Grant (with Ian Malcom and Ellie Sattler) and the T-rex Rexy/Roberta: There would be an exchange of glances between Grant and Rexy. Rexy recognizes Alan with the smell, while Grant recognizes Rexy with the scars caused by a velociraptor in Jurassic Park. At first Grant is scared, but reassures himself soon after remembering that it was this Tyrannosaurus that saved him sometime. After a calm and respectful exchange of views, Rexy leaves calmly, leaving Alan reassured and happy.

  28. Can’t they just make it R rated? Then go nuts with the film. Turn it into a horror if you must……..
